Race Equality and Schools: A Guide for Parents and Carers

The Black Training & Enterprise Group (BTEG) on behalf of the Centre for Educational Success (CES) has produced a guide to help parents and carers understand the responsibility that schools have to address race equality and suggest what parents can do to support schools to raise educational attainment. It also outlines the responsibilities of schools, which include the preparation of a written policy for promoting race equality, assessing the impact of such a policy on pupils, staff and parents from different racial groups and monitoring its effect.

Thus far, BTEG have distributed copies of this pamphlet to both maintained and supplementary schools on a national level with some excellent success. We have had orders between 200 to 1300 copies from various schools interested in disseminating our guide to their pupils' parents and have also had coverage from various media outlets including BBC London Radio and Community Newswire.

BTEG have also gained support from numerous London Assembly Members and they have graciously decided to support BTEG's guide by writing a letter and providing copies to each of the DCSF in their respective boroughs supporting the dissemination of the guide in full.
