Action on race inequality

A proposal to establish a shared website to link and support organisations that are taking action on race inequality in the UK

Background

In August 2016, Theresa May launched an audit of public services to reveal racial disparities in order to help end the injustices that many people experience. To implement this, a Race Disparity Unit (RDU) has been established within the Cabinet Office.

The RDU is collecting data on public service outcomes by ethnic group from government departments. This data will be published on a new website, due to go live in July 2017.

Response from BTEG and the Coalition of Race Equality Organisation

  • We welcome the Government’s move to put more ethnicity data into the public domain.

  • But we consider that the data alone will have limited value for most individuals and organisations.

  • We are proposing to create a new website that will make use of the RDU data, linking this to research, policy, campaign and other actions to end race inequality.

What would the proposed new shared website do?

  • Establish a focal point for taking action on race inequality.

  • Use the RDU data to track inequalities and to take action to address these.

  • Provide a single, shared location for resources, including comments and briefings on the government data, research reports, case studies, ‘what works’ etc, which organisations and individuals can use to take action on race inequality

Consultation Process

BTEG has undertaken a national consultation about this proposal to establish a shared website for taking action on race inequality highlighted in the Race Disparity Audit.
