The Black Training and Enterprise Group (BTEG) is looking to convene a series of focus groups and to conduct interviews with individuals relevant to the research brief and purpose. The research is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) Tackling Racial Inequalities Fund (TRIF). It is looking to engage Black, Asian and minority ethnic families (BAME) to: ‘Understanding the support needs of vulnerable BAME families'.

The approach is to conduct a series of focus group events as well as one to one interviews with both practitioners and parents/guardians. Focus Groups, which will be established in each of the three chosen regions will work with up to 90 families identified as in need of support with respect to vulnerable boys experiencing poor education outcomes, concerns regards mental health care support and those with offending/anti-social behaviour. Each focus group will consist of at least 10 different family members, reflecting the areas of concerns indicated (i.e. education, mental health care and offending behaviour). Each session is not likely to last more than 1.5 hours, for which there will be an incentive for participation in the form of high street vouchers and reimbursement of travel expenses.

It is hoped that your voices will help inform policy decisions and so lead to better support for families in need. If you would like to contribute to the development of improved services by participating in this important initiative and/or just want to find out more about the research, please contact me as indicated below.

Deadline for expressing an interest is 26th February with focus groups starting w/c 15th March 2010.
