Employment / Skills

Overview

“There is an urgent need to raise UK skills levels to help drive productivity, growth and job creation.” (Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, 2010)

There are 2.5million unemployed people in Great Britain and the prognosis for future years suggest that this is likely to increase, especially as the public sector cuts begin to bite. BTEG is working to support the wider employment and skills agenda but with a particular focus on the needs of BAME communities.

We will highlight:

-          Trends and patterns in the labour market through our Briefings and workshops;

-          Regional and localised information and best practice so as to inform and make widely available information in supporting employers and prospective employees;

-          Opportunities for self employment and entrepreneurial opportunities;

-          Provide links to national policies and opportunities so as to ensure BAME communities, in particular, are informed of changes and opportunities to engage in consultations, surveys and so on. In other words, to be part of the Big Society.
