Developing a Fundraising Strategy: 1 day
The aim of the course is to enable staff and trustees to increase their knowledge and skills in fundraising management by learning the techniques required to develop and implement a successful fundraising strategy. By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand the steps to take to analyse the current position of their organisation
- Identify the importance of planning and managing the fundraising process; and
- Prepare and develop a fundraising strategy.
This interactive 'how to' training course is practical with both theory and practice on how to create a robust fundraising strategy Group activities, case studies and tasks are set throughout the training to help you construct the key elements of your strategy.
This course will benefit the lead fundraiser, director, Chair or Treasurer.
Developing a Case for Support: 1/2 day
By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand the purposes of a case for support
- Identify why we need a ‘Fundraising Case for Support'
- Understand and identify the basic components of an internal and external case for support
- Understand how to use and present an external case
- Identify the main pitfalls
This is a practical 'how to' course. It takes you through what is a case for support, what are the benefits of having one, how to put one together and use it to facilitate your fundraising. This course will benefit management, trustees and staff responsible for the fundraising process.
Diversifying your Funding Base: 1 day
By the end of this course participants will:
- Identify a range of sources of income
- Understand the importance of income generating through trading
- Understand the tendering process
- Understand the essential characteristics of partnerships and fundraising.
This full day course will open your eyes to what options are available to raise funds. A fun course packed with group activities to diversify your funding and your thinking. This would particularly benefit those responsible for developing your fundraising strategy.
Fundraising and Governance: 1 day
By the end of this course participants will:
- Develop in their role as a Trustee and Director
- Identify how your role impacts on strengthening or weakening governance capacity within your organisation
- Identify the relationship of good governance and organisational effectiveness
- Gain an appreciation of the importance of fundraising in relation to Trustees
The course covers the governance role and how it relates to all aspects of trustees responsibilities, insurance, risk analysis and the legal implications when fundraising. This course will benefit Trustees and Directors
Fundraising and Volunteers: 1/2 day
By the end of this course participants will:
- Identify and gain an appreciation of how volunteers can successfully fundraise
- Develop volunteer recruitment practices
- Understand the importance of providing support and supervision to volunteers
This course will benefit those responsible for recruiting and supervising volunteer fundraisers. This includes fundraising admin support, using volunteers at fundraising events, and face to face fundraisers.
Fundraising and Bid Writing: 1 day
By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand why we need to manage our approach to fundraising
- Identify why we need a Fundraising Case for Support
- Understand how to use and present an external case
- Understand project thinking and fundraising
- Understand the essential components of good bid/proposal writing
This is a ‘how to' interactive course packed with both theory and practice. A mix of group activities and tasks are set throughout the training to help you prepare winning bids. This course will benefit management, Trustees and staff responsible for the fundraising process.
Cultural awareness: 1 day
Most voluntary organisations have staff and clients from a range of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. Difficulties can arise through misunderstanding or lack of knowledge of different cultures. This course considers cultural diversity, cross-cultural communication and ways to minimise misunderstanding.
By the end of this course participants will
- Understand the nature of cultural diversity
- Develop skills in working in a diverse environment
- Understand cross-cultural communication

Full cost recovery: 1/2 day
The principle of full cost recovery is to accurately cost your project, including the essential core costs needed to become more sustainable. The government and many leading funders are promoting it. This course looks at calculating the full cost of a service, including overheads in bids and best presenting your case.

Business planning: 1 day
Having a formal plan is now considered to be an essential element of an organisations success. Whether it is called a business, strategic or development plan this course will explore how such a document can be used to help your organisation look to the future.
By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand what a business plan is and its relevance for the voluntary sector
- Be aware of the structure and content of a business plan
- Understand the steps involved in business planning and be able to take a structured approach to developing a business plan within their own organisation
Aimed at: Anyone putting their first plan together.
Writing that winning tender: 1 day
With the move away from traditional grant funding, many organisations find themselves having to compete for funding through the commissioning process. This may be to continue existing services or to start new projects. Organisations need to understand the commissioning and tendering process to be able to present a viable case. This course will cover the different types of tendering process, putting a proposal together, preparing a realistic budget, being able to present your case and understanding the nature of contracts to ensure it knows what is being agreed. The course looks at the essential skills involved, including identifying potential contracts, deciding whether to bid, writing an initial response, costing, demonstrating value for money and making your tender stand out.
By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand the processes involved in tendering
- Understand how best to present the case
- Feel more confident to complete a PQQ and write a tender
- develop the skills required for pitching for competitive tenders
