Government needs to Reach Further

The Black Training and Enterprise Group welcomes the REACH report launched today but believes the recommendations do not go far enough in dealing with the crisis in the black community.

As a charity that exists to extinguish racism from our workplaces, education system and streets we find it unacceptable that Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) is allowed to continue broadcasting racist bullying. CBB's denial that racism is taking place is also deplorable but regrettably many individuals and institutions in our country remain in denial about racism as well.

Schools failing to report to parents

Schools are failing to share evidence of their performance on attainment, exclusions and racist incidents with parents, according to a report published today by the Black Training and Enterprise Group.

The search for new solutions to the problem of education under-achievement amongst BME (black and minority ethnic) pupils has begun in earnest with the first meeting of the National Steering Group of the Centre of Educational Success (CES) held earlier this month, bringing together leaders and educationalists from the voluntary and community, public and private sectors.
